Not all Vikings are alike. They are merchant adventurers, mercenary soldiers, pioneering colonists, pitiless raiders, self-sufficient farmers, cutting-edge naval technologists, primitive democrats, psychopathic berserks, ardent lovers and complicated poets.

Vikings appear to possess a plasticity that makes them perfect molding blocks for different usages. They have held onto their power and attraction to this day, because they have the ability to undergo cultural translations and modernization.

At the same time, this very adaptability has encouraged ongoing idealization, as Vikings continue to be glorified and romanticized in modern culture, reimagined and repurposed across everything from TV shows and comic books to advertisements and even passports.
